San Fernando City
The city of San Fernando is located in the beautiful San Fernando Valley, situated in Los Angeles County in the state of California. Founded in 1874 and named after the Mission San Fernando Rey de España which is situated nearby. It is the oldest city in the San Fernando Valley and is conveniently located approximately 23 miles from the city of Los Angeles. The land was originally populated by Tataviam and Gabrielino Indians, prior to the arrival of Spanish explorers in 1769.
The founding of San Fernando was brought on by the land boom of Southern California as well as the building of a rail line connecting Bakersfield and Los Angeles. The arrival of settlers populating the city earned it the name of "Gateway to the North." In 1915, many of the other communities in the San Fernando Valley were annexed as part of Los Angeles in a move designed to allow them to take advantage of the Aqueduct built by the city; however, San Fernando, with its own independent water supply, was able to remain independent.
Today, the city of San Fernando enjoys its own unique feel with historic Mexican architecture and an annual fiesta celebrating its origins as a mission. There are a number of local attractions that draw visitors from all over the country. One of the area's popular attractions is the San Fernando Mission, which became the longest and largest mission. Other popular attractions include the historic Lopez Adobe residence, the San Fernando Museum of Art & History, the San Fernando Regional Pool Facility and the San Fernando Library operated by the city of Los Angeles.
The city of San Fernando operates its own police department and individuals arrested by an officer with the San Fernando police department will be taken to the city's jail facility where they will stay until they go to court. If bail is set, bail bonds can be issued and individuals posting bail will be released pending their hearing.
